Today was one of those great days for a genealogist… I found some lost relatives.  We had been looking for years to try and figure out who my gg-grandmother’s family was and today Mary Ann Giza from the Town Clerk’s Office in Easthampton, Mass tracked Exina down and sent us the news. We are VERY grateful.

The note that came states:

Hi Mark,

I was only able to find Exina Deyo’s death certificate on file here in Easthampton, MA. She died on Dec. 27, 1956 at age 73 years. Her husband was listed as George Deyo and she was widowed at the time of her death. Her parents are listed as Alexander Minor and Louise Paige both born in Churubusco, NY as was Exina. She died of a cerebral accident and is buried in St. Brigid’s Cemetery in Easthampton. Her address at the time of death was 6 High St., Easthampton (more toward downtown, off of Union St.) She was listed as having resided at that address for 15 years prior to her death.

The funeral home in charge of the arrangements was Boucher Funeral Home (now goes by Boucher-O’Brien Funeral Home) at 7 Pleasant St., Easthampton. They may have information on George if their funeral home was used for the arrangements. Their phone number is 413-527-0015 and the owners are Tom and Mary O’Brien.

Also, another chance for information on George could be Immaculate Conception Church in Easthampton. Their cemetery is St. Brigid’s where Exina was buried. Their phone number is 413-527-9778. The Rectory address is 33 Adams St., Easthampton, MA 01027.

I looked extensively for George’s death record. I not only checked the index (for 1915-56 but also checked the original records (going through each record) for 1933-38.

Maybe they moved out of Easthampton around the time of George’s death and Exina later moved back?

Hopefully the Immaculate Conception Church has George’s date of death at least. I do not know if they would have any further info. regarding where his death record is located.

Hope this information helps. Please contact us if we may be of further assistance.

    Lawrence Willis 5/15/1909
    Esther 8/4/1911

Manor/Menard are common names in this area. Hope this is helpful.

George was my father-in-law’s (Frank’s) brother.

Years ago my mother-in-law made us copies of Frank’s family:

Under the “Children of John Deyo” was “George married Alixa Manor” (Manor/Menard) These names are common in this area. One is french and the other is english.

I hope this is helpful and that it goes through this time!

    Thank you Barb.

I will add this information to the family tree. I do believe that much of the family rests in that cemetery. I’d love to find Joseph & Julie Deo’s graves or better still birth information. Maybe that will come. (I’d love copies of the info if that’s possible….)

In the meantime, I have had some wonderful success in tracking Exina’s family. Once I prove out the links( this weekend I hope), I believe I should be able to get the family back to the late 1700’s and possibly all the way back into France. Je me souviens!

    Hi Mark,

George Deyo died in Altona, NY on Oct. 17, 1942 and was buried on Oct. 19 in Holy Angels Cemetery in Altona.

There isn’t a stone at the grave site. Maybe it was just a wooden cross which didn’t last or maybe they didn’t have any marker at all.

George’s son Lawrence was my uncle (he married my aunt Yvonne) and I remember them going to Mass. to visit relatives.

I obtained this information from a newspaper clipping.

In re: to Joseph and Julia Deyo
This is information that I found in a couple of books that were copied from original files by friends. Joseph and Julia were my husband’s ggrandparents.

    Hope this is helpful.
